Cosopt Drug InformationWhat is Cosopt used for?Cosopt is used in the treatment of specific types of glaucoma and some other causes of high pressure inside the eye. When should Cosopt not be taken?Cosopt should not be taken while wearing contact lenses. Wait at least 10 minutes after administering the drops to put your contacts back in. Do not use the dropper if it has touched any surface, as it may be contaminated and could cause an infection. Do not use Cosopt if you are allergic to dorzolamide or timolol, or if you have asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, certain heart conditions, heart rhythm disorder, or severe or uncontrolled congestive heart failure. What precautions should I follow when taking Cosopt?Tell your doctor if you have breathing problems, a history of heart disease or congestive heart failure, diabetes, a muscle disorder, kidney disease, liver disease, or a thyroid disorder. Be careful while driving or participating in an activity that requires clear sight, as Cosopt may cause your vision to become blurred. If you are having any type of surgery, most importantly eye surgery, let your surgeon know ahead of time. What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Cosopt?Cosopt may cause your vision to become blurred so take care when doing any activity that requires your full, clear vision. Do not use any other eye medications unless told so by your doctor. Do not use the medications for at least 10 minutes after taking Cosopt. What are the side effects of Cosopt?Most severe: Serious side effects of Cosopt include: allergic reaction; swelling or redness of the eyelid; eye redness, discomfort, or sensitivity to light; drainage, crusting, or oozing of the eyes or eyelids; fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; wheezing, gasping, or other breathing problems; swelling, rapid weight gain; or feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion. Most common: Less serious side effects of Cosopt are: blurred vision, double vision, drooping eyelid; burning or stinging in your eye; unusual taste in your mouth; stomach or back pain; dizziness; dry eyes; nausea, upset stomach; sore throat, stuffy nose; or headache, Other: How should Cosopt be stored?Cosopt should be stored at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. How should I take Cosopt?Take Cosopt exactly as it was prescribed to you. Wash your hands before applying the Cosopt eye drops. Tilt you head back and pull the lower eyelid down to form a small pocket. Look down and away as you squeeze a drop into the pocket. Close your eye and gently press the inside corner of your eye for about 1 minute. Wait 10 minutes before using any other eye drops.
